Parent Survey Results

First, let me thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback through the recent parent survey. I believe it to be critically important to stay in touch with you, our parent partners, in order to best meet our mission and answer the essential question, “What’s best for the children?”

The survey consisted of four questions, stated below. We received 118 responses, which represent about 60% of our current families. That is a statistically robust number of participants and gives me confidence that the results of the survey are an accurate measure of parent sentiments.

  1. My child feels supported and accepted at school by both peers and teachers.
    • 68% of parents strongly agreed
    • 95% of parents agreed or strongly agreed
    • Less than 1% of parents disagreed or strongly disagreed
  2. I am satisfied with the level of academic challenge and academic support my child receives at James River.
    • 67% of parents strongly agreed
    • 92% of parents agreed or strongly agreed
    • Less than 1% of parents disagreed or strongly disagreed
  3. I am satisfied with the frequency and quality of James River’s all-school communications.
    • 78% of parents strongly agreed
    • 96% of parents agreed or strongly agreed
    • 2% of parents disagreed or strongly disagreed
  4. I am satisfied with the frequency and quality of my child’s teacher's communications with me.
    • 57% of parents strongly agreed
    • 86% of parents agreed or strongly agreed
    • 3% of parents disagreed or strongly disagreed

These results confirm what we already suspected: You, the James River parent community, are happy with the education and services provided for your children and family.

We all work very hard to ensure we are cherishing and challenging the children and to support James River families to the best of our abilities. It pleases me to know we’re doing a good job, though you know we will always strive to improve. If you have concerns, I want to hear them. Please feel free to reach out to me. That’s part of who we are as a community--constantly learning from each other, strengthening our partnership, educating our students, and holding ourselves to high standards which make us stretch to reach them.

Let me also assure you that we heard your feedback about meeting times. By far, the most popular time was the evening slot. We will keep this in mind as much as possible as we schedule events in the future, though any meetings currently on the school calendar will stay at their previously assigned times.

Once again, THANK YOU! I truly appreciate your input and the time you took to give it.
