There are few things more thrilling than the start of the school year. We look forward -- as parents and teachers -- to the opportunities our children will explore, the relationships they will create, and the discoveries they will make. While no year is quite the same, every year begins with hope, excitement, and anticipation. We are excited to welcome your children to the 2017-2018 school year on Wednesday, August 30.

There is always something new at school when the year begins. This year, we welcome forty new students to our community, which by itself is fantastic and worth celebrating. Please join me in welcoming each new student and family and help make the transition into James River as smooth as possible. And yes, the community is welcoming a new Head of School! I am thrilled to be here and looking forward to the first day of school with the same excitement -- and butterflies -- that many of the new students may be feeling. I look forward to meeting each and every member of the community in the weeks and months ahead. Please, don’t be shy -- introduce yourself and say hello.

Of course, we are about the celebrate the opening of our new classroom wing and playground. There are too many people to thank here, but I am amazed and awed at the collective energy this community has committed to creating incredible learning and play spaces. The impact of the new spaces on this year’s students -- and for generations to come -- is immeasurable. The work to get the new spaces ready for the the opening continues, and we are excited to invite you in to see how all of the planning and hard work has turned out.

As you review the forms and other important information contained in this mailing, I would like to remind you that certain forms must be completed and returned to school on or by August 30. We know that is lots of important information for you to read through, so don’t hesitate to call if we can help with anything. We look forward to seeing you for class visitation Tuesday, August 29. Lastly, don’t forget to mark your calendar - September 8 is the school-wide Fall Family Picnic, our first chance for the whole community to be together!

I will close with one thought. Our mission is to help your student become the best scholar, leader, and citizen one can be. Our partnership is essential in order to make your child’s experience a success. We strive every day to provide extraordinary care for your child, to seek excellence in what we do, and to help your child discover their possibilities. Together, we can make this year extraordinary.

Warmest regards,

Peter
