Born in upstate New York, Mrs. Cox came to Virginia for college. She received her B.A. from Randolph-Macon Woman's College and her
Master's in Teaching from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Mrs. Cox taught first grade in Campbell County and City of Lynchburg before staying home with her children for nine years. She began teaching at James River in August 2010 as a second grade teacher. Known for her creativity in music and playwriting, she has enjoyed making the annual second grade play very special for the students. She is famous in the James River community for teaching Shakespeare to the second graders. The students love it and learn so much about the time period, as well as the great bard. Ali says, "One of my greatest pleasures in teaching at James River Day School is having the autonomy to teach rich, inquiry-based lessons."
Ali's hobbies include travel, French grammar, songwriting, writing plays, being outdoors with dogs and family, piano, reading, and baking with her daughter. She lives in Lynchburg with her husband, David, and their two children.
