Mrs. Arp’s introduction to James River was in the 2017-2018 school year as the parent of a newly enrolled kindergarten student, as well as a substitute teacher for the school. In August 2018, she began teaching K-4 technology for James River and has quickly found her passion to inspire the independent and creative learner in each of her students.
Caroline earned her B.A. degree in English from Longwood University and her M.Ed. in School Library Media through Old Dominion University. Before taking some years to stay at home with her two daughters, Caroline taught for eight years in Henrico County, first as an International Baccalaureate English teacher at Moody Middle School and then as a librarian at Deep Run High School. In that time, she honed many of her skills and experiences in interdisciplinary, inquiry, and project-based learning. She also enjoyed being published in the nationally recognized magazine, School Library Monthly (now School Library Connection), obtaining a grant for her school library, and traveling to Carnegie Hall to watch one of her students receive a Scholastic Gold Writing Award.
Caroline loves to be outdoors with her family, seeing new places, and enjoying the adventure of life. She is truly grateful to be a part of the James River Day School faculty and aspires to contribute to its excellence in education. She lives in Lynchburg with her husband, Kevin, her two daughters, Corinne and Claudia, and her two rescue puppies, Mei-mei and Reggie.
