Ms. Horner is our Director of Advancement. She joined James River's administrative team in 2013 as Director of Development, and became our Director of Admissions in the summer of 2015. Her role here at JRDS shifted slightly in December 2016 when she was named Director of Advancement. She had previously served as our Interim Director of Development in 2010. Sally has a wealth of experience in development and event planning. Over the years, she has been the Director of Development for New Vistas School, Assistant to the Director of Development for the Academy of Fine Arts, and the Special Events Coordinator for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Sally grew up in Lynchburg and is a James River Day School alumna (class of 1989 - back when James River was a K-5 school). She went on to graduate from E.C. Glass High School. While in high school, she enjoyed performing with E.C. Glass Theatre and competing on the swim team. Sally went on to Hollins University, where she majored in communication studies, minored in studio art, and competed on the swim team. During her sophomore year, she interned with Larry King Live, and in her junior year she studied in London. She also worked two summers on a Wyoming dude ranch, where she was head of their children's programs.
Today, the most important thing in her life is her daughter. Sally also enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing with her dog, running, and photography. An active volunteer, she has chaired the Lynchburg Walk to Cure Diabetes, is a member of the Friends of the Academy of Fine Arts, and has served on the board of the Lynchburg Humane Society.
