Fall Enrichments

There are several opportunities for after-school fun and learning this fall.

Fall Fun Explorations

A James River Day School student works on a fall craft.

K-4 students will be able to explore fall-related fun activities. Some themes include apples, pumpkins, scarecrows, leaves, candy, and turkeys. We'll adventure together through stories, crafts, STEAM activities, taste-testing, outdoors in nature, experiments, and more! Mrs. Hollyday Marks will be the instructor and the fun will take place in her classroom.

Fall Fun is open to students in grades K-4. The program runs Tuesdays, September 24 through November 12 (8 total sessions), from 3:10 to 4:15 p.m. The cost is $150. BUY

K-4 LEGO® Club

Students will utilize LEGO® Education kits each week to engage in a new building and coding challenge. These unique kits contain motors, sensors, and smart hubs that will allow the students to bring their LEGO® builds to life! The SPIKE™ App, featuring coding based on Scratch, helps students develop their coding skills. Students will explore the engineering design process, including defining a problem, brainstorming solutions, and testing and refining prototypes. They will also engage in computational thinking skills, including creating and modifying sequences, testing, debugging, and using loops. Lessons are differentiated by grades K-2 and 3-4, so older students will have more advanced builds and coding challenges. The instructor is Mrs. Lindsay Klein.

LEGO Club is open to students in kindergarten through 4th grade. This program runs on Thursdays, September 26-November 21; no class on October 10 or 31 (7 Sessions Total), from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m. in the STEAM Lab. The cost is $150. BUY

Middle School Robotics Team

James River is launching a VEX robotics team for middle school students! This exciting opportunity will allow students to learn about mechanics, electronics, and computer programming as they work as a team to build robots and ultimately compete against other schools around the state in January and/or February. Adam Spontarelli, cofounder of Vector Space will be the coach. The Robotics Team will be offered as a program for fall, winter, and spring sessions in Mrs. Crowther's room.

Open to students in grades 5-8, the Robotics Team will meet on Mondays and Thursdays, September 9 through November 7 (except for October 14), from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. for the fall trimester. The cost is $275 for the fall session. SOLD OUT!
