October 10, 2019

James River Parents,

On October 23, you will have an important opportunity to make a positive impact on your child’s education by participating in parent-teacher conferences.

As part of the parent-teacher partnership, we set aside a day every trimester to meet together. To us, this face-to-face time with you is critical. This is our chance to exchange information about who your child is as a student and as a person. We can relay the changes we see and give you the opportunity to tell us what you see happening with your child. Watching students grow and mature is always fascinating, and we need you to help us see a more complete picture of your child.

I hope that every parent is able to come to conferences, and please feel free to share what you are seeing at home. If your child feeling particularly successful in a class or is anxious about something at school, please tell his/her advisor/homeroom teacher. The picture you give us of who your child is at home helps us deliver the best educational experience possible.

If you are not able to attend conferences on October 23, I encourage you to contact your child’s homeroom teacher or advisor to choose some other mutually agreeable time. We truly don’t want to miss this opportunity to meet with you. And, if at any other time during the year, you become concerned about your child’s school life, please contact us. We are here to offer you our educational expertise, information about childhood development, and the aid and comfort of knowing we’re in this together with your child as our priority.

As parents, you are given roughly 18 years to prepare your child for life as an adult. As educators, we are given nine years (at James River) to instill a sense of inquisitiveness, a love of learning, and the skills they need to become excellent scholars, confident leaders, and supportive citizens. Working together, we can cooperate to help your children become their best selves.

I look forward to seeing you on October 23.

Sincerely,

Peter York
