Full-time Faculty Positions

James River Day School currently seeks qualified candidates for a full-time teaching position in kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year.

 

The ideal candidate will be passionate about education and working with children. Candidates should have the strong interpersonal skills required for team teaching, peer collaboration, and parent communication. The successful candidate will work with an experienced teacher partner in the grade-level for which they are hired.

 

Experience with independent school education is preferred. Salary is competitive with full benefits, including retirement.

 

Qualifications

  • Recent classroom teaching experience in grades K-5
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field is required, with a strong preference for a concentration in elementary education; a master’s degree is preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of elementary education and child development
  • Collaborative, flexible team player who understands and appreciates school life

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Use innovative methods and materials to produce effective learning experiences including cooperative learning, differentiation, and critical thinking
  • Develop lesson plans consistent with established guidelines and goals
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Plan individual and group learning activities designed to meet instructional objective and students’ needs

James River Day School seeks a full-time, middle school English teacher. This faculty member reports to the Head of School and is responsible for teaching middle school literature, grammar, and composition. She/he will actively support the school’s vision, mission, and core values. This teacher will enable the academic, social, and personal development of adolescents in a positive learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
This teacher will be responsible for teaching, motivating, inspiring, and assessing middle school students in English. She/he will teach the assigned curriculum, correct assignments, administer tests, evaluate student progress, keep parents informed of student progress, while being positive, collaborative, innovative, and passionate. This teacher will also serve as an advisor to a mixed grade-level cohort of students in the middle school advisory program.
 
She/he will plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instruction in a manner that facilitates active, student-centered learning using various teaching methods such as discussion, group activities, and occasional lectures.
