Academic Technology Coordinator
The Academic Technology Coordinator oversees the school IT infrastructure and inventory and supports the technology education and usage for kindergarten through 8th grade.
Duties
- Maintain inventory of equipment for faculty and staff, including classroom devices and AV equipment
- Serve as the domain administrator for Google Apps for Education, AVAST Business Security Console, Apple School Management, and Microsoft licensing (and others as necessary)
- Ensure all school devices are properly configured and all software is installed and updated regularly
- Work with consultants for any projects or other needs
- Support classroom teachers with technology integration
- Teach technology (STEM) within classrooms as appropriate or assigned
- Serve as the testing coordinator for standardized academic testing, including the NWEA adaptive test, WrAP test, and others
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Head of School for Finance & Operations
Requisite Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with managing IT infrastructure, hardware, and software preferred
- Broad knowledge of educational technology

Music Teacher (K-8)
James River Day School seeks an inspiring, full-time, music teacher for the 2024-2025 school year, who is responsible for teaching music education to students in kindergarten through fourth grade. This person will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences, which will include singing, moving to music, playing instruments, and listening.
Duties
- Teach general music to K-4th grade, including theory, appreciation, and history through a performance-based lens
- Plan, rehearse, and direct students in multiple grade-level appropriate musical programs for the school and community
- Teach and direct middle school choir
- Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances
- Evaluate each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group
- Communicate clearly with parents and faculty/staff on the progress of individual students and musical performances
- Responsible for maintaining/caring for school-owned music, musical instruments, equipment, and performance spaces
- Cooperate with the Head of School and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and seasonal programs.

Requisite Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education
- Certification in Orff, Kodaly, or CS preferred
- Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
- Strong vocal and piano skills
- Ability to create and plan classes, lessons, and activities based on NAfME’s standards for creating, performing, and responding
- Broad knowledge of all types of music literature, including Western art music, contemporary, and world music

Spanish Teacher (K-8)
James River Day School seeks a full-time Spanish teacher, grades K-8, for the 2024-25 school year. Spanish instruction seeks to create oral proficiency first, followed by the ability to read and write the target language. Cross-curricular cultural projects help students appreciate the diversity of world languages and the importance of learning about other cultures.
Duties
- Teach Spanish to lower school and middle school students
- Partner with the other Spanish teacher to build strong Spanish-language acquisition
- Serve as the middle school Advisor for 10-12 students
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Requisite Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree required (in education or Spanish preferred)
- Fluency in the Spanish language
- Strong knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary
- Comprehensible Input or other immersion methodology is preferred
- Ability to create and plan classes, lessons, and activities, effectively promoting the use of multiple methods of problem-solving
- Encourage collaborative teamwork, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully
