Endowment
The Kristen Cook Excellence in Teaching Fund was established in 2024 by the Cook family to honor Kristen’s legacy upon her passing, with approval from the Board of Trustees. In collaboration with the Cook family, this fund pays tribute to Kristen, a former James River teacher, board member, and alumni parent, whose passion for education and love for our school continues to inspire us all.
In line with James River’s mission to cultivate intellectual curiosity and strength of character in a joyful community, the Kristen Cook Excellence in Teaching Renewal Grant provides faculty with a stipend to explore the world beyond Lynchburg. Receiving faculty can use the grant for domestic or international travel, allowing them to experience new cultures or pursue other opportunities that will renew and inspire them in their work. This is a fitting reflection of Kristen’s love for travel and learning, having once received a teaching renewal grant herself to explore New Zealand.
We are honored to continue Kristen’s legacy by supporting the teachers who guide our students. You can contribute to this fund through the giving form below or by sending a check to the school. If you would like to contribute in another manner, please contact Michelle Davis, Director of Development, for more information.
