Head Lines: August 26, 2020

Dear James River Day School Community,

I wanted to share a few pictures and thoughts at the end of our first day of the 20-21 school year. All the planning and thinking and rearranging has paid off. Our students and our faculty/staff had an excellent first day.

Carpool this morning went smoothly. Classes seemed to go well with one kindergarten teacher commenting, "We didn't even have any tears today." New middle school students experienced the usual confusion of trying to find their classes and were assisted by their teachers and the older students.

There was a LOT of hand-washing and many reminders to "keep your distance." We had a few masks that needed adjustment to fit properly, which is to be expected.

Afternoon carpool worked, and we are already brainstorming ideas to make it run even better.

Our faculty and staff had done so much ahead to prepare for today that it really was impressive how well things went. I am excited for this year, and I encourage each family to keep up the good work with mask-wearing, social distancing, and other safety protocols. This cooperative spirit is what has made it possible for us to return to school. We must stay the course in order to remain in school, so thank you for being mindful and observant of these necessary steps.

I mean it, THANK YOU! All of you.
