James River Day School has been immensely blessed through the years with many generous donations to the school. Although the kick-off of this year’s Cardinal Annual Fund (CAF) appeal is still a few weeks away (the school’s fiscal year runs from July 1-June 30), we have been fortunate that several donors have already made their gifts, representing their belief in our mission.

Throughout the year, we will recognize various donors and highlight why they are choosing to support James River philanthropically. This week, we would like to acknowledge Mr. Jerry Stanley, Director of Building and Grounds at James River. Recently, our Director of Development, Michelle Davis, sat down with him to learn more about why he gave to the Cardinal Annual Fund.

How many years have you been a part of the James River community?

I have been a part of the school as an employee since 1999.

What do you like most about James River?

I love seeing and talking with the lower school kids each day. It really makes my day to see them. And, being able to see the middle school kids play sports and cheer them on is one of the highlights of being here.

How did you choose to support the Cardinal Annual Fund?

I saw other people on Facebook do fundraisers, and I thought that would be a good thing to do for James River. I set the goal at $200 to start because I didn’t know what to expect, but people just kept giving! I raised the goal 2 more times and it eventually made almost $800 for James River!

Why do you encourage others to support James River through the Cardinal Annual Fund?

I like that the support from the Cardinal Annual Fund helps provide extra money for the school above what tuition covers.
