Donor Spotlight -- October 1, 2020

As we lead up to this year’s Cardinal Annual Fund kick-off, this week’s Donor Spotlight highlights Sara Hunt, parent of two James River students. Sara is active as a Parents' Association volunteer and is serving as the 4th Grade Class Agent, along with her husband, Vaden, for the Cardinal Annual Fund this year.

How long have you been part of the James River community?
We have been here for six years. However, even before my children arrived, we were hearing wonderful things about the school from cousins and family.

What has been your favorite volunteer activity at James River?
I've had the pleasure of volunteering a few times with the Fourth Grade One Miler, as well as watching as a parent. It is such a great event, with a focus on fitness and sportsmanship and being your personal best. I love that the whole school comes out to cheer and congratulate each runner.

What do you like most about James River?
I appreciate the emphasis on character. It truly takes a village to raise a child, and I am glad to know that even at school, traits like honesty and integrity and kindness are being supported and enforced. Education is so important, but in the end, your character is what will define who you are. Showing "strength of character each day" as the JRDS character pledge says, is something that we should all strive for.

Why do you encourage others to support James River through the Cardinal Annual Fund?
This year is certainly unusual, and I see each day how hard the faculty and staff are working to make sure the kids are happy and healthy. I was more motivated than ever to give this year based on how well JRDS has risen to the challenges of this school year. After spending a few months last year as a "teacher" during quarantine, I am even more appreciative and grateful for our wonderful school.
