April 1, 2021 - A Few Thoughts from Mr. York

I am writing this week’s edition of Head Lines with one day to go before spring break #2, and I have several thoughts to share with you:
  • While proofreading the teachers’ recent report card comments for the second trimester, I was once again struck by how well our teachers know your children. They praise their students’ strengths and offer plans for improvement in areas of challenge. Advisors and homeroom teachers, especially, are in tune with the social and emotional needs of your children. At James River Day School, we live our mission every day. This is cherishing and challenging in action.
  • I would be remiss if I did not thank you, the parents, for committing to another year at James River. If an indicator of parent satisfaction is your willingness to re-enroll your children for another year, you are a highly satisfied group! Our retention rate has been even higher than normal this year. We take our job seriously, and we are grateful for your continued partnership.
  • We are also grateful for your telling your friends and neighbors about your positive experiences at school. Enrollment demand continues to be quite high for next year.
  • Please be safe during the upcoming break. As the number of COVID-19 cases trends down, and the number of vaccinated individuals goes up, there is a natural tendency to let down one’s guard. Please continue to follow the practices that have enabled us to have such a wonderful year so far. If you travel, please know that your child will not be penalized if you choose to quarantine upon your return.
Enjoy the coming week of rest, relaxation, and hopefully some fun. Spring has arrived just when we needed it, so let’s all enjoy some of what spring has to offer. I’ll see everyone on April 12 when we return.
