New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year! As we reach the end of our holiday break, I hope you will join me in some New Year's resolutions as we return to school!

For all of us:
  • As we see a bump in local COVID-19 case numbers, please continue to do all possible to protect our community: masking, distancing, and keeping social circles small.

For students and staff:
  • Wear a fresh mask each day and keep a spare at school.

For students each day:
  • Bring a water bottle!
  • Bring a coat, gloves, hat, and/or scarf as the weather dictates.
  • Bring a snack.
  • Dress within the dress code.

For parents:
  • Communicate about all early dismissal, carpool changes, and illnesses with the school nurse.
  • After we're back, if your child contacts you during school hours not feeling well, ask them if they've been to the school nurse. If they have not, please tell them to go to her. You may also call the school nurse (434-384-7385 x110).
For families:
  • Be on time for morning drop-off.
  • Keep children at home if they're not feeling well.
  • If you are concerned your family may have had a COVID-19 exposure over break, please stay home and seek your physician's advice and contact the school nurse ([email protected]). If you find you must quarantine, please rest assured there will be no academic penalty for your child. We continue to respond to each case individually, based on each unique set of circumstances. Contact the school nurse if you have questions or feel uncertain about whether your child needs to stay home from school.
  • We are aware of the CDC's recently updated COVID-19 guidelines. As we review those updated guidelines, we will communicate any changes in our school’s COVID-19 policies and protocols to you.
The cooperation of our community has enabled us to do what many deemed impossible. I appreciate all you do to support James River and our efforts to provide in-person learning for your children.

I look forward to seeing students and families this week.

With my best regards,

Peter H. York
