Admirable Purpose and Unwavering Determination

It is so good to be back in school! I think everyone--students, parents, and faculty--appreciates returning to the regular rhythm of the school year. Despite the winter weather, the Omicron phase of the pandemic, and an unplanned fire drill (a.k.a. a false alarm!) Thursday afternoon, I am upbeat as we head into 2022 and the second half of the school year. Enrollment is strong; generous gifts to the Cardinal Annual Fund demonstrate your belief in our mission; and interest from prospective families is high. Most importantly, our faculty and students are engaging every day in active, joyful learning.

Our word of the week, resolute, is defined as proceeding with admirable purpose and unwavering determination. I love that phrase as it epitomizes what James River is all about. What we do here at school, cherishing and challenging our students, is important, meaningful, and transformative. We live our mission every single day, and we have been living it now for over 50 years.

The school year has gone by quickly so far, and January will be no different.
  • Students taking high school courses will have mid-year exams next week.
  • The school spelling bee is scheduled for January 21.
  • The 4th grade concert is scheduled for January 25.
  • Parent conferences will be held on January 26.
Please remember to continue to practice social distancing and wearing masks. I know it’s discouraging when it seems the pandemic will never end, but we must be resolute. I am excited about the rest of the school year, building on what is already strong and continuing to deliver on our mission in partnership with you, our families. Thank you for your continued support!
