In Grand Style: Grandparents' Day 2023

Grandparents play a special role in their grandchildren’s lives. They are role models. Grandparents support their grandchildren and delight in their accomplishments. They love their grandchildren unconditionally, and the children love them in just the same way.

This special relationship is at the center of James River’s annual Grandparents’ Day. This year, for the first time since the spring of 2020, our annual Grandparents’ Day event was held with no COVID-19 restrictions, and it was a fabulous success. Grandparents joyfully watched as students in kindergarten through fourth grade and in each of our middle school music ensembles (Band, Orchestra, and Choir) performed for their grandparents and grand friends.

After the morning’s performances, grandparents visited their grandchildren’s classes and toured the school, including the Student Art Show in the Taylor Media Center. The students and teachers had put together numerous informative and entertaining displays in preparation for Grandparents’ Day.

It was wonderful to watch the delight the students had in showing their grandparents around. The children’s caring in helping their grandparents navigate our campus and participate in the activities and demonstrations, revealed our students’ kindness, character, and leadership.

As a grandparent myself, I know how proud our “grands” are of their grandchildren. These young people give us all many reasons to be proud now and hopeful for our future.
