Parent Book Club Announced for Fall

As we celebrate the closing of another school year, I wish you a quiet, restful, fun, and family-filled summer. I will officially join the James River community on July 1 and could not be more excited. My husband, Jeff, and I are eager to get settled in Lynchburg and get to work.

I recently worked with a group of James River faculty to select a faculty summer reading book, and I would like to invite you to join in the fun. We will host an inaugural Parent Book Club discussion in the fall for those who choose to read along.

To participate, obtain a copy of Thrivers: The Surprising Reasons Why Some Kids Struggle and Others Shine by Michelle Borba from an online bookstore or a local, independent book retailer. Read at your own pace, and be on the lookout for the Parent Book Club schedule in the fall, beginning in late August.

As an avid reader myself, I feel it is vital for our children to see us read and discuss books as adults. I hope we will have more Parent Book Clubs in the future, and I believe strongly that this book will help to generate a common vocabulary for faculty and parents.

I look forward to seeing you all in late August for the beginning of the 2023-24 school year as we welcome all of our returning and new families.

Go, Cardinals!
