Amazing Community

“Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining.” –Anne Lamott

I will never get tired of saying how amazing our community is. I have been in awe of watching and hearing stories of care throughout the last week. I am so grateful to be a part of the community and walk with you on this journey. I am hopeful that you will enjoy a fall break with your children for the four-day weekend.

Our faculty will be working in the coming days as they engage in some generative work for the future of James River. I will share more about these things later. Additionally, we will have workers on campus installing our new three-dimensional signage at the front of our campus. They have already finished the first phase of updating traffic and campus-use signage with no impact on our operations.

I am also excited to announce our first parent book club of the year. The survey we sent out two weeks ago had a clear winner with 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People: A Groundbreaking Approach to Leading the Next Generation―And Making Your Own Life Easier by David Yeager. This book was published very recently in August 2024, and I look forward to engaging in the research with you. If you cannot attend our book clubs, I encourage you to read along. Parents of children of any age will find value in this book. We will send out more details separately, but save the date for November 12, 2024, for our in-person book club.

Let’s Fly!
