A Time to Reflect

“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” -- Mother Teresa

I prioritize moments of reflection during this time of year. As the fall and winter holidays approach, this is the beginning of a busy season, and taking time to appreciate all we've accomplished is essential. I am incredibly proud to be a part of this community. A few short years ago, I was researching James River Day School to prepare for my interviews for the Head of School position. I am immensely grateful for joining the JRDS community, but I could never have imagined how wonderful the school actually is based on those early impressions. I am very proud of this school and love watching our children grow and thrive.

I love walking the halls and watching our faculty engage with students meaningfully. Last year, we rewrote our portrait of a graduate to reflect what our students accomplish while they are at James River. Our new Portrait of a Cardinal reflects who our students will be when they graduate AND who they are presently, whatever their age. Every day, I see examples of our students learning to create boldly, question thoughtfully, lead empathetically, grow courageously, and act responsibly. I feel honored to be a part of that journey.

Next Wednesday, October 30, will be our fifth annual Day of Gratitude to kick off this year’s Cardinal Annual Fund (CAF) campaign. This vital part of our operational budget bridges the gap between the cost of being an independent school and what is covered by tuition. All of our faculty and trustees have committed to the CAF with 100% participation. I ask our parents to do the same. Please give generously at whatever level makes sense for your family.
