With Thanksgiving

“There is something profoundly satisfying about sharing a meal. Eating together, breaking bread together, is one of the oldest and most fundamentally unifying human experiences.” --Barbara Coloroso

It was truly a gift to share a meal with this community today. I am proud of our service to the greater Lynchburg community, but I am more proud of our tradition of setting aside time to gather for a meal and connection. Thank you to our PA for coordinating this event for twenty-one years. I am grateful to lead a community dedicated to the care and well-being of each other.

As I have shared before, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. The brain science nerd in me loves having a holiday devoted to openly expressing gratitude. Scientific research indicates that having/expressing gratitude is important to developing emotional resilience, fostering positive relationships, and supporting our overall happiness and well-being. Plus, I love gathering with friends and family over a lovingly crafted meal, celebrating our gratitude for each other, and taking time to rest (without the pressure of buying just the right gift!).

As we head off to our respective Thanksgiving celebrations near and far, I wish you all a restful break with plenty of good company and good food. Thank you for being a part of this community that I so cherish. I am grateful for our students, parents, faculty, and staff who continually make this a special place.

Let’s Fly!
