“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.” –Dolly Parton
After a wintry start to our spring semester, I am so grateful to see some sunshine and have an uninterrupted week of school. With so many starts and stops to our regular schedule, I will reiterate my reminder to parents post-Holiday Break: Don’t be surprised if they exhibit more emotionality or are more sleepy than usual. They will quickly regain their stamina—as will the adults—once we regain our regular routine. A little vitamin D from the sunshine will help as well.
The next few weeks promise to be busy. We kicked this week off with the basketball sports recognition event–a rescheduled event from a previous snow day. I am so proud of our players' leadership in a particularly challenging season with many game delays and rescheduled practices/games. I enjoyed watching them play throughout their season to “receive their flowers” (as Coach Wiggins says) at the season’s end. Our athletes grew in their skills as players, and they grew as individuals—showcasing remarkable sportsmanship. They highlighted what we expect of our students—to grow courageously and act responsibly as Cardinals. Tonight, we will host the annual Hall of States event, during which our second-grade students will demonstrate their research skills and public speaking abilities. I cannot wait to watch them shine under the tutelage of their teachers, Mrs. Smyczek and Mrs. Daniel.
In the coming weeks, we will host Grandparents and Friends Day, begin the lacrosse season, start another session of robotics and other enrichment offerings around campus, and welcome in a planned break with Spring Break. I look forward to (and wish for) continued good weather and time spent with our community guiding our young students.
Let’s Fly!
