“A child’s life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark.” —Chinese proverb
One of the tenets of being a James River Cardinal is learning to grow courageously. Our Portrait of a Cardinal describes it this way: “James River students feel secure in taking intellectual risks and viewing challenges as a means toward progress and self-discovery. They learn to adapt and face disappointment while developing perseverance, determination, and problem-solving capacity.”
This type of learning is not linear, and it requires a strong parent-school partnership, as I discussed during Back-to-School Night. In an effort to support parents as they help their children navigate developmental changes and big life transitions, we will host two informational parent lunches for 5th grade and 8th grade—two pivotal transitional years. Parents in those grades should have received email invitations to RSVP for the events. Led by Gessi Wright and me, these lunch meetings will provide parents with insights into the transitions to middle school and high school. For our 8th-grade families, we will also provide an overview of the high school enrollment process and outline the support we offer families. If your oldest child is navigating these grades, you definitely do not want to miss these talks. This is just one of the ways we partner with you to help our students grow.
Let’s fly!
