Being on the Cusp of November (October 30, 2025)

“Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.” —Stephen Covey

Thank you to all of our families, alums, and community members who participated in our 6th annual Day of Giving. While we are still working on the final numbers, we can proudly say that we achieved all of our goals for the day. We surpassed $50,000 in donations, more than 50% in parent participation, and over 30 alumni contributed to our Give Day. What a fantastic day of support for the James River’s mission. Thank you!

As the weather is in constant flux this time of year, I am going to share two reminders for parents. First, please make sure that your child’s name is on their belongings, such as water bottles, jackets, and extra layers. As the temps change throughout the day, students might shed layers of clothing, and the names on items help us return them quickly. Second, we believe our students need time to move and play throughout the day, and that it is always best to have unstructured play outdoors. As such, we adhere to the Scandinavian adage, “There is no bad weather, only bad clothing choices.” Our children will have recess or break outside in most weather conditions, including rain. We make exceptions when equipment has ice on it or the playgrounds/fields are too wet to be safe, or the turf might be damaged. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

I look forward to seeing all of the amazing costumes tomorrow at the Halloween Parade.
