“There is a huge abyss within every mind. When we belong, we have an outside mooring to prevent us from falling into ourselves.” — John O’Donohue, Irish poet and philosopher
It is so great to have everyone back on campus after the holidays, and I hope that your new year is starting off in the right direction.
As we all return to our normal schedules, I always want to remind parents that the transition back to a structured schedule can sometimes be challenging, especially for younger students. If your child is struggling with being overly tired, lacking emotional regulation, or changing appetites, it could be a normal readjustment period. Returning to evening routines and meal schedules can help. Allowing for an earlier bedtime can also help. If you find the transition period is lasting longer than a week or two, please reach out to the homeroom teacher or advisor. We can collaborate on ways to support your child and you.
As we kick off the spring semester, we are excited to share the major dates calendar for 2026-27 (linked below). As you make your family plans, I want to highlight a few changes in next year’s calendar based on parent feedback:
- The Friday before Thanksgiving is now a full day. We have heard feedback from families about the difficulties of navigating half days and have worked to reduce the number of half days for our families.
- We removed the Back-to-School Night event to reduce the number of evening obligations in September.
- The Fall Parent Conferences are set for earlier in the year, on September 23, 2026. We are reimagining this first conference day to allow you to connect with homeroom and advisory teachers earlier in the year to emphasize personal growth in our students. Visitation Day will also look a bit different as a community event.
I am looking forward to more daylight hours over the coming weeks, and I am sure your family will appreciate it as well.
Let’s Fly!
Jenn
P.S. I am sharing with you an advance copy of next year's school calendar. If you choose to print this, please keep in mind that all dates are subject to change. The most accurate calendar for day-to-day needs is the online calendar.
