Celebrating the Arts at JRDS

"If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." — Marcus Tullius Cicero

We are so proud of our middle school musicians. Last week, they traveled to Kings Dominion’s Festival of Music. It is a fun opportunity for our students to showcase their skills and be evaluated and critiqued by well-respected adjudicators and composers. They also get to spend a day in the park in between performances. The orchestra and choir received superior ratings, and the band received excellent ratings. Thank you to all of our parent chaperones who supported our students throughout the day, and BRAVO to Mrs. Berkley and Mrs. Kerstetter for guiding our students to such a stellar performance.

We have three more performances before the end of the year, starting with our K/1 Music Performance tonight in the Cardinal Cafe. Our middle school theater production of Newsies JR. opens tomorrow night at VES, and our middle school spring concert is next Wednesday at the University of Lynchburg.

But our arts haven’t stopped yet! We will also host our third annual Lower School Art Festival next Friday, May 15. Thank you in advance to all of our parent volunteers who support that fun activity. Also, thank you to Dr. Hellewell, who organizes this annual event and invites local artists to do demonstrations for our lower school students. It is a fun way to wrap up an amazing year in visual arts.

Finally, a special thank you to our PA volunteers who have helped supply our faculty with snacks and treats all year and who went above and beyond this week for Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers have appreciated the extra pampering this week as we continue our sprint to the end of the year.
