Finalists Announced in SciFest Poetry Jam
Congratulations to all the James River students who entered poetry in this year's contest! We are delighted to announce the James River students chosen as 15 of the 52 finalists from more than 600 entries. The finalists are:
• in first grade - Sara El-Ahdab for her poem, Nature; Kingston George for Deer; Penn Hunt, for his poem about Crocodiles; and Mikaela Mehrotra, for hers about Cheetahs.
• in second grade - Pax Armock for Monkeys; Mackenzie Easters for her poem, Sea Turtles; Kaelyn Mahland for her poem entitled The Storm; Rory McCready for a poem about Cirrocumulus; and Charles Royster for his poem, Clouds.
• in fifth grade - Sophie Csatlós for Polaris Won't Let Go; and Lauren Easters for her poem, The Lab.
• in sixth grade - Mary Clare Caprise for a poem called Rain; Elijah Johnston for his poem, Nebulae; and Eva Lopez Valentine for her poem about Mitosis.
• in eighth grade - Ainsley Eubank for her poem, An Undivided Land.

On Friday, March 23, Randolph College hosted a reception to honor the finalists and announce the winners of this year's Poetry Jam. We are excited to announce that Lauren Easters won first place in the elementary division, while Rory McCready won second place in the primary division, and Eli Johnston won third place in the middle school division!
