Space Balloon

The Global Space Balloon Challenge at James River Day School was a success. Partnering with Vector Space, our local community makerspace, students constructed a payload which was connected to a high altitude balloon for launch. The balloon's payload weighed five pounds and included a GPS device and camera.

At noon on Saturday, April 21, the Space Balloon Club, led by Mrs. Crowther and Mrs. Lesko, launched the  balloon and its payload, which traveled over one hundred miles. They were able to retrieve the payload later that same day near Alberta, VA (southwest of Petersburg, VA). Due to a camera malfunction, they didn't get any video footage of the voyage, but the launch and the recovery worked beautifully.
