Middle School Theatre

At James River Day School, our theatre students create boldly, embracing big choreography, powerful storytelling, and the challenge of stepping into new and complex characters. They question thoughtfully, exploring different themes and the power of collective action. Through rehearsal and collaboration, they lead empathetically, learning to listen, supporting one another, and honoring and understanding perspectives beyond their own. As performers and production team members, students grow courageously–taking creative risks, building confidence, and discovering their voices both on and off stage. And, throughout the entire process, they act responsibly by honoring their commitments, supporting their peers, and working together toward a shared vision.

Newsies
This spring, our middle school performers will seize the stage with Newsies Jr.–a bold, high-energy story about young people who discover the strength of their own voice. Set against the backdrop of 1899 New York City, the show follows a spirited group of newsboys who rally together to stand up for fairness, friendship, and the power of unity.
