Born into a military family, Rachel grew up moving every other year. So, when her father retired and accepted a position as a professor at Liberty University, her whole family was delighted to finally settle down! They have all been in Lynchburg since 2008 and have loved their time here.
Ms. Harvey graduated from Liberty University in 2018, attaining a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education as well as earning a minor in Family and Child Development. She completed her student teaching at James River Day School in the fall of 2018 under the guidance of JRDS fourth grade teacher Jeannie Heishman. Rachel was able to return as a long-term substitute teacher in third grade the following spring. She was delighted when she was offered the position of second grade teacher in fall 2019. In fall 2020, Miss Harvey shifted to teaching third grade.
Speaking of her time at James River, Ms. Harvey states, “I fell in love with JRDS the first time I set foot in the building – the warm environment, the pursuit of academic excellence, and the attention to each student’s learning needs and desires sets this school apart from any other school I have been to. Teaching at James River is a dream come true, and I cannot imagine working anywhere else!”
