Dr. Sarah Hellewell joined the faculty in the fall of 2018 as a long term substitute for Joy Pratt, who is on a sabbatical.
Sarah graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in History and a B. A. In Studio Art. She then taught history and studio art and coached field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse at Virginia Episcopal School. After two years, Sarah decided to return to school and attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary Critical Care at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Hellewell began working with Lynchburg Pulmonary Associates and at Centra in 2006, predominantly in the medical and surgical intensive care units. Sarah retired from the practice of medicine in March 2018, and she is excited to get back to teaching art.
Sarah is married to Timothy Hellewell, a radiologist with Radiology Consultants of Lynchburg. They have two children, Will and Charlotte, who both attend James River Day School.
