Do you have trouble choosing summer reading books? Do you have trouble monitoring your summer reading? Are you someone wishing that you could discuss your reading with other friends? This camp might be right up your alley! In the Cardinal Book Club for grades 4–6, we’ll pick fun, high-interest novels and turn reading into something active, social, and low-stress. Campers won’t just sit and read silently. They’ll learn easy note-taking tricks to keep track of what’s happening, laugh about characters, argue (nicely!) about plot twists, and figure out what the author is really up to. No book reports, no pressure—just smart strategies that make reading easier to understand and way less frustrating. Participants will be given a paperback novel as theirs to own (and write in) as part of the cost of the camp. The reading will count towards the “third novel of choice” expectation required of JRDS students during summer reading.
