Helping children cope with the violence in our world requires our presence and caring. Preventing violence requires us to teach our children how to have a civil discourse in difficult topics. Teaching compassion requires us to show children how to be a friend to different kinds of people, because though we may appear different on the outside, we are all very similar on the inside.
